Now don't get the wrong idea. Just because this is a program aimed
at kids doesn't mean that it's not as good as a "grown up" program.
In fact, the opposite is true -- KidCenter has more tools and
special effects than most programs aimed at adults! The secret to
this program is that
KidCenter makes even the hard stuff fun and easy.
Inside the program is a wide variety of paint tools, many of which
are somewhat specialized. These tools range from goofy and fun
doodling tools for those "crazy" moods to tools that give some
pretty sophisticated results. For example -- there's a lawmower that
grows grass, and this grass has blades that are shaded around the
color that was chosen, simulating light and shadow. The result is
grass that looks more like grass than a bunch of little lines.
In this picture note that all the tools are very simple to locate and how the current tool is selected. (In real life the whole menu is animated.) To get a new tool set, all you would have to do is click on one of the tabs. To the left is a color bar that will accomodate most colors needed. Overall the idea is to have everything that's required right in front of you, not buried in menus.
Besides the fun of animated menus and cool tools, we also put in a MIDI music soundtrack and some pretty nifty sound effects.
IN THIS EDITION:
KidCenter supports 24 bit color. What does
that mean exactly? Mostly it means more color than you'll ever
need. KidCenter shares many of the attributes introduced
in Child's Play Version III and builds on them.
For example -- the 3d tools offer finer 3d rendering, the textures used
can be ANY number and use ANY color scheme, and the file format is
now JPG to support family web pages.
